The Mission of the Northridge Middle School counseling department is to inspire students to shape the world through standards-based programs and challenging opportunities, ensuring academic, emotional and social growth for all students. Every student will have equitable access to the Northridge Middle School counseling program, which provides grade-level activities, individual and small group counseling and core curriculum. Northridge Middle School counselors advocate for fairness, justice and respect for all, in order to achieve their maximum potential today, tomorrow and beyond.

Our Vision is that the students at Northridge Middle School are prepared for the challenges of secondary and postsecondary education and the high demands of the ever changing global society. As a result of participating in curriculum, students are prepared to be happy, healthy, productive members of society and reach their maximum potential. Students are empowered to be life-long learners, feel safe to make mistakes and are able to reason logically, think critically and solve problems. Students will cultivate success and have a sense of competence while recognizing their individual strengths and potential and applying their unique talents both academically and socially as they transition into adulthood.

The school counselor is assigned to your student at the beginning of 6th grade. The counselor loops with the students throughout 7th and 8th grades. This process allows the counselor to get to know each student over their three years at NMS. The counselor remains a constant for the students as they navigate their time in middle school.

A counselor is ready to help students find out more about themselves as they grow through the middle school years. Students or parents may make an appointment to see the counselor. We provide both individual and small group counseling as well as educational support and guidance. If school staff believes there is a need for extensive counseling or therapy, parents or guardians will be notified and provided assistance in finding a professional to meet their needs.
